Throne and Liberty Greatsword Beginner Build

Welcome to the Throne and Liberty Greatsword Beginner Build Guide.
In this guide we will explain how to create a simple but powerful Greatsword build that is perfect for new or casual players. Our beginner builds are easier to create and play than our endgame builds (such as the Greatsword & Dagger build) because they have fewer essential skills and passives, and equipment that is generally easier to obtain.
It will take you considerably less time to set up and learn to play this build than builds intended for endgame, so this is the ideal starting point if you’re quite new to the game, or if you only intend to play the game casually and don’t want to put much time or effort into hard PvE dungeons or PvP combat.

Greatsword Beginner Build Setup for Throne and Liberty
In this section, we will explain the important components of the build, such as stats, passives, skills and equipment for our Greatsword Beginner Build in Throne and Liberty.
Weapons Main vs Off-hand
Main-hand: Greatsword (View all Greatsword skills)
Off-hand: Dagger (View all Dagger skills)
Our main hand weapon is the Greatsword, and our off-hand weapon is the Dagger. Our off-hand passives stay active even if we are using the Greatsword. Greatsword provides a selection of skills that deal huge damage and come with Crowd Control, while the Dagger mainly supports these abilities by adding poison and improved Crit Chance and Crit Damage.
The Dagger’s bonuses to crit mean that it synergizes well with almost every weapon in the game, including the Greatsword. We’ll be using the Greatsword for the bulk of our main damage output, while the Daggers are used to provide some easy-to-use buffs to your attacks, giving more DPS.
If you’re just starting out then you can equip whichever Greatsword and Dagger you find, and keep replacing them with better ones that you find when levelling up. You don’t need specific weapons for this build to work, but we will include a more precise equipment section later in the guide for players who already reached maximum level and want to put a bit more time into optimising their gear.
Stats
The most important stats for the Greatsword and Dagger Build are Strength, which increases your melee weapon damage, HP and Resistances, and Dexterity, which improves your Critical Hit Chance, Movement Speed and Attack Speed.
Aim to have a stat distribution similar to that listed below, but don’t worry if you can’t get all of it yet:
30 Strength
30 Dexterity
10 Wisdom
19 Perception
If you’re brand new to the game and only just started levelling up then start by increasing your Strength. Later on, boost Dexterity and Perception until you reach something similar to the recommended stat distribution above.
Defense Skill
Each build in Throne and Liberty can slot one defense skill. Because we are using a Greatsword and Daggers we have a choice between two defensive skills:
Greatsword: Iron Point Parry
Dagger: Ambush Stance
For our Greatsword Beginner Build we want to select the Iron Point Parry to increase our damage output. This will also boost our overall DPS because of the Skill Damage Boost that we get when defending against a Fury Attack.
Active Skills
Below are explanations of the skills we are using for the Greatsword Beginner Build. While you can slot up to 12 Active Skills on your bar in Throne & Liberty, this can be very difficult for newer players to keep on top of, especially if you’re not very experienced playing on mouse and keyboard.
To make things easier for you, we are only listing the six most vital skills for this Greatsword Beginner setup – you can always choose to add more skills later once you’re more comfortable.
We’ll be focusing on the skills that give you the most performance in combat, and leaving out skills that are tricky to use or have a smaller benefit.
Greatsword Skills
Valiant Brawl – Attack 3 times. If there are other enemies in the skill’s range, the attacks are spread out between different enemies, and the final attack will hit your target. If the attacks are spread out, the final attack deals extra damage.
Precision Dash – Charge at the target, dealing damage.
Stunning Blow – Deal damage, with a very high chance of stunning them for a bit.
Death Blow – Deals damage. Damage is increased by 30% against Stunned, Bound or Sleeping targets.
Gaia Crash – Deals AOE damage in the targeted direction.
Dagger Skills
Inject Venom – Adds Weaken: Poison to all attacks for a few seconds. The poison lasts for a few seconds, deals damage over time, stops health regeneration and can be stacked.
Passive Skills
Below you can find an explanation of the passive skills for our setup.
Passives augment your build in various ways, making your attacks more powerful, improving your survivability or providing other helpful effects.
The passives are explained below, but an important thing to note is the effects of the Dagger passives. While you will mostly be using your Greatsword with this build, the Dagger passives apply even while you have the Greatsword equipped. The three Dagger passives mentioned below provide you with an easy package for greatly increasing your Critical Chance and Critical Damage. To get the most out of it, try to remember to use the Inject Venom skill to poison enemies, because the Vicious Fangs passive only works when you attack a poisoned enemy.
Robust Constitution – Increases Health Regen, Max Health and Recovery Crystal Healing.
Cold Warrior – Increased Critical Chance against Stunned enemies.
Victor’s Morale – Dealing damage with skills restores 19 Mana. Does not apply to damage over time.
Raging Frenzy – You gain 70 bonus skill damage when there are 3 or more enemies within a 5 metre radius.
Vital Force – Melee, Ranged, Magic Hit increases by 2.02, Stun Chance increases by 0.425, and Skill Damage Boost increases by 0.25 per 100 of current Health.
Dagger Passives
Assassin’s Instincts – Increases your Melee, Ranged and Magic Critical Hit Chance.
Vicious Fangs – Increases your Melee, Ranged and Magic Critical Hit Chance when attacking a target inflicted by your Poison.
Wrathful Edge – Increases your Critical Hit Damage by 21%.
Skills and Passives Upgrade Priority
Upgrading Skills and Passives in the right order will make combat a lot easier in Throne and Liberty. However, it also takes quite a long because you need so-called “Growth Stones” to upgrade and the higher quality ones are difficult to get. Therefore it is important to plan ahead which skills you want to upgrade first.
Note: You unlock higher level skills already in a higher quality such as Rare or Epic. So you won’t have to upgrade all of the Skills.

Equipment for the Greatsword Beginner Build
When you are leveling up this build don’t worry too much about gear. The gear itself only becomes important after level 50. Therefore make sure to simply equip whatever you find and focus on leveling up your skills. Make sure to read our Throne and Liberty Equipment Guide to understand the basics of how gear works. Additionally, we also recommend reading the Throne and Liberty Gear Enchanting Guide to get an understanding of how you can improve your gear and why it is important.
Please note that since this is a beginner build, the gear mentioned below is just a guide – you can get by just fine if you decide to use a different gear setup than what is mentioned here. You can click on the items in the tables below to find out more about them.
How To Obtain the Gear
The easiest way to get the beginner gear is to do as many daily quests as possible. That way you can farm “Contract Coins”. You can pick up daily quests in Kastleton at the Contract Manager Noss at the townsquare. The Daily quests often reward you with things like:
Quality Lithograph: Weapons
Quality Lithograph: Accessories
Quality Lithograph: Armor
With these Lithographs you can then craft your starter gear! Sometimes the Contract Manager might not have the Lithographs, you can try to refresh the page and new ones will pop up.
Contract Coin Merchant: Next to Noss you can also find the Contract Coin Merchant Kail that will sell you these Lithographs directly (scroll down to the bottom of his list) for 100 Contract Coin each. However, we recommend just doing the dailies to get the Quality Lithographs because the coins are better spent on other items.
Now you can simply move up the stairs and you will find the Weapon Crafter Ragere, Armor Crafter Rachel and Accessories Crafter Marianne. With the green Quality Lithographs you can craft any of the green items they offer. Of course, you will need some crafting materials, but you often get those by simply doing the dailies. Otherwise simply click on the crafting materials icon and click on “how to acquire” and it will show you where to find them.

How to Play the Greatsword Beginner Build in TL
Now that we have explained how to create the Greatsword Beginner build, we will cover the best ways to play the build to get the best out of it, including combos and general tips.
Greatsword Build Combos
While you can play the Greatsword Beginner build on a casual level by just using random skills or spamming the same skill over and over again, you might eventually want to practice using the skills in a certain order to make the most of their effects and their synergy with your passives. This can result in considerably increased damage output and other advantageous effects. Learning how your skills work together is a key part of becoming a stronger player in Throne & Liberty.
Below are a couple of useful and easy Greatsword combos that you can get started with.
Stunning Blow -> Death Blow
The simplest combo available with this build, stunning your enemy will result in a 30% damage bonus from Death Blow. This is the least powerful combo, but it’s good to use when you are at low level or cannot do a more complicated combo for another reason (cooldowns, time pressure, etc)
Inject Venom -> Stunning Blow -> Death Blow
A slightly more complicated version of the previous combo. This one is better thanks to the Vicious Fangs passive, which improves your Critical Chance against Poisoned enemies.
Greatsword Tips & Tricks
Don’t focus too much on gear early on. Gear farming only becomes important after you hit max level.
Get equipment that gives you extra Max Health or Strength stats at the beginning.
Always keep track of your cooldowns, especially on the high cooldown Skills.
