Freyna’s Story

Here is a quick list of the pros and cons of the Freyna Build for The First Descendant.

Pros

Excellent DoT damage due to several overlapping poison and venom effects
Can apply DoTs in an AOE
Great at taking out groups of enemies

Cons

Average mobility
Damage output takes time to ramp up and is slow at first

How to Play Freyna in the First Descendant

Freyna’s speciality is poisoning enemies with DoT (Damage over Time) effects, which cause them to perish gradually.

She can poison enemies in an AOE, thanks to the Putrid Venom skill. Enemies poisoned by this effect also leave behind poison footprints that will poison any enemies following them. Therefore, careful positioning is an important factor when it comes to playing as Freyna – players can find ways to manipulate enemies into tight areas where they will easily spread the poison to each other.

Most of Freyna’s abilities apply another debuff to enemies, called Room 0 Trauma. This deals damage over time to the afflicted enemy, and also periodically applies Posion to enemies within 4 metres of the Room 0 Trauma victim.

In the late-game version of this build, we will use a Skill Module called Contagion to further buff Room 0 Trauma, causing afflicted enemies to release a Contagion Wave when they die, dealing extra damage to nearby enemies and potentially setting off chain reactions.

An extra bonus of Freyna comes from her passive skill, Contagion Links. This causes enemies Poisoned by Freyna’s skills to take extra damage from her other attacks.

While Freyna doesn’t have the best burst damage in the game, her Poison can rack up huge DPS against groups of enemies, and she’s very useful to have on the team due to the extra DoTs and debuffs placed on enemies.

We also ranked Freyna’s kit and playstyle and added her to our The First Descendant Tier List – Best Characters.

The First Descendant Freyna Skills Explained

In this section, we willexplain the skills available to our Freyna Build in the First Descendant, how each skill works, and the best ways for you to use them.

Freyna’s skill loadout is themed around Poison, applying the Poison to many enemies at once, and debuffing them with Room Zero Trauma, causing them to take more damage from attacks.

Description

Venom Trauma
Throws poison to attack target enemy with damage and inflict Room 0 Trauma onto nearby enemies.

Defense Mechanism
Significantly increases DEF. There is chance of inflicting Room 0 Trauma to enemies upon attack.

Putrid Venom
Throws poison to create a Poison Swamp. Enemies entering the Poison Swamp are inflicted with constant damage and Poisoned Footprints state. When enemies in Poisoned Footprints state walk around, they create footprints that poison other enemies.

Venom Baptism
Switches gun to Venom Baptism. Enemies hit by Venom Baptism are inflicted with Room 0 Trauma.

Contagion Links (Passive)
Increases Freyna’s Toxic skill power based on the number of nearby enemies afflicted with Poison.

Venom Trauma

Throws poison to attack target enemy with damage and inflict Room 0 Trauma onto nearby enemies.

Venom Trauma Skill Description:

Toxic – Tech
Fires a Toxic Bullet, dealing damage to enemies hit.
Creates a Toxic Puddle. Enemies who touch the Puddle are inflicted with Room 0 Trauma.
Room 0 Trauma deals continuous damage and inflicts Poison on nearby enemies at regular intervals.

How to use Venom Trauma:

Venom Trauma is great to use at the start of the fight to get the ball rolling with Freyna’s poison effects immediately. It’s especially good when enemies are tightly packed or in a confined space, since this will cause the Toxic Puddle to touch more enemies. However, the cooldown isn’t too long, so don’t wait too long for the “perfect” shot.

Defense Mechanism

Significantly increases DEF. There is chance of inflicting Room 0 Trauma to enemies upon attack.

Defense Mechanism Description:

Toxic – Dimension
Gains Plague Bodyarmour for a period of time.
Plague Bodyarmour increases DEF and has a chance to inflict Room 0 Trauma on the attacking enemy.
Room 0 Trauma deals continuous damage and inflicts Poison on nearby enemies at fixed intervals.

How to use Defense Mechanism:

We recommend using Defence Mechanism as often as possible, especially when you are in close combat with enemies. It lasts for 10 seconds and has a 20 second cooldown, so you can have it up around half the time. The extra defence is certainly useful, but the extra imbuement of Poison and Room 0 Trauma helps Freyna to push even more DoT damage to surrounding enemies.

Putrid Venom

Throw toxins to create a toxic swamp, poisoning those within.

Putrid Venom Description:

Toxic – Tech
Throws Toxins to create a Toxic Swamp.
Enemies entering the Toxic Swamp receive continuous damage, become inflicted with Poison and Venom-Soaked.
Enemies with Venom-Soaked leave toxic footprints as they move. Enemies who touch the footprints also get Poison.

How to use Putrid Venom:

Putrid Venom is the most powerful tool in Freyna’s arsenal for poisoning many enemies at once. It applies its own DoT and combines it with the DoT from Poisoned enemies. Try to combine it with Room 0 Trauma effects from other skills to get the full range of Freyna’s DoTs on enemies at the same time, this will result in the best possible DPS for your Freyna build.

Venom Baptism

Switches gun to Venom Baptism. Enemies hit by Venom Baptism are inflicted with Room 0 Trauma.

Venom Baptism Description:

Toxic – Tech
Switches the equipped weapon to Venom Baptism.
The original weapon returns when all bullets have been fired or the duration expires.
Enemies hit by Venom Baptism take damage and get Room 0 Trauma.
Room 0 Trauma deals continuous damage and inflicts Poison on nearby enemies.

How to use Venom Baptism:

Venom Baptism gives you a special venom gun that deals heavy damage to targets and causes them to suffer from the Room 0 Trauma DoT and inflict Poison on their nearby friends. The Poison and Room 0 Trauma DoTs caused by this skill deal much more damage than their counterparts from Freyna’s other skills. With its long cooldown of 110 seconds and very high damage, Venom Baptism can be considered your “ultimate” skill.

It is best saved for bosses and dangerous groups of enemies; however, don’t hesitate to use it. This is a very powerful skill, and you shouldn’t waste it by always waiting for the “perfect” opportunity to use it.

Contagion Links (Passive)

Increases Freyna’s Toxic skill power based on the number of nearby enemies afflicted with Poison.

Contagion Links Passive Description:

Toxic
Increases Freyna’s Toxic Skill Power by the number of nearby enemies inflicted with Poison.

How to use Contagion Links:

Contagion Links is Freyna’s passive ability, and is therefore always active. It highlights the importance of proactively poisoning your enemies and figuring out ways to poison as many as possible. You’ll be rewarded for this twofold – the Poison DoT itself is a great bonus, and you’ll get extra damage on your other attacks thanks to the Contagion Links passive.

You get 3% extra damage per stack, and can stack it up to 15 times for a maximum of 45% bonus damage on all of your attacks.

Freyna Build Modules for The First Descendant

In this section, we will explain the recommended Descendant Modules for this Freyna Build in the First Descendant.

Important! When equipping Modules on Freyna, ensure that as many modules as possible are in a slot with a matching icon (top left corner on tooltip). This will half their Module Capacity Cost.

Your Module Capacity Cost limits how many modules you can equip, and can be upgraded as you level up your character. Different modules have a different Capacity Cost, which generally depends on how powerful the Module is. This is a balancing system to prevent players from only equipping the strongest modules and having a totally overpowered character.

Best Weapons & Weapon Mods for our TFD Freyna Build

In this section, we will explain the best weapons for our TFD Freyna Build and the ideal weapon mods for them. To max out all the mods listed here your Weapon module capacity must be maxed. If you don’t have enough slots yet, make sure to follow the prioritization queue.

How to get modules: Go to your map and then select Access Info on the top of your screen. Select Modules and type in what module you want to search for. Next, click on Acquisition Info and you will see where those have a chance to drop.

We recommend using the following weapons for Freyna in the First Descendant:

Fallen Hope (Assault Rifle)

Fallen Hope is the perfect weapon for Freyna in The First Descendant, as it plays into her Poison mechanics by granting bonuses when you shoot a Poisoned target.

You get a 10% Attack bonus when shooting Poisoned targets with Fallen Hope.
Poisoned enemies killed by Fallen Hope have a 30% chance to explode, dealing AOE damage and Poisoning enemies nearby.

We strongly recommend using Fallen Hope as your main weapon if you’re playing as Freyna in TFD.

We are using the following weapons mods for the Fallen Hope Weapon:

Vibration Absorption – Reduces Recoil
Toxic Enhancement – Adds Toxic ATK equal to a portion of Firearm ATK.

Important: This Module should be replaced with the Fire, Chill or Lightning version when you are fighting a Colossus that is weak to one of those elements. We default to Toxic because it’s the most natural fit for Freyna in regular circumstances.

Sharpshooter – Increase Firearm ATK, and slightly increases Firearm Critical Rate
Focus Fire – Increases Weak Point Damage and Firearm Critical Hit Damage
Fire Rate Concentration – Increases Fire Rate and Firearm Critical Hit Damage
Insight Stabilizer – Reduces Recoil and slightly increases Firearm Critical Hit Rate
Reload Insight – Increases Reload Time Modifier. Increases Firearm Critical Hit Rate.
Weak Point Aiming – Increases Accuracy. Slightly increases Weak Point Damage.
Toxic Gunbarrel – Increases Toxic ATK, slightly reduces Fire Rate.

Important: Once again, this Module should be replaced with the Fire, Chill or Lightning version when fighting a Colossus that is weak to one of those elements. This Module must have the same damage type as the Enhancement Module mentioned above, because this module does not add elemental ATK by itself, it only buffs existing elemental ATK, so there is no point in using only this module without an elemental Enhancement Module also being present.

Toxic Conductor – When attacking enemies inflicted with Poison, Firearm ATK is increased by 8%.

You don’t need these modules precisely. Of course, the more you have the better.

Subconsciousness – Shotgun

Subconsciousness is a rare Shotgun. We use this weapon for close-quarters burst damage – its shots spread out so they can be used to damage multiple enemies at a time, possibly one-shotting weaker mobs.

This weapon is ideal for situations when you’re forced to fight many enemies in a confined space, for example if you are defending an objective and your position is in danger of being overwhelmed by enemy numbers.

We are using the following Modules on the Subconsciousness weapon:

Shell UP – Improves Shell Capacity
Better Concentration – Improves Critical Hit Damage
Action and Reaction – Improves Firearm ATK, slightly increases Recoil
Focus Fire – Increases Weak Point Damage and Firearm Critical Hit Damage
Commando Marksmanship – Improves Firearm Critical Hit Damage, and slightly increases Firearm ATK
Marksman –  Improves Firearm Critical Rate, and slightly increases Firearm ATK
Insight Stabilizer – Reduces Recoil. Slightly increases Firearm Critical Hit Rate.

Tamer – Machine Gun

Tamer is a rare Machine Gun. It is arguably the best weapon in the game for fighting bosses, particularly the Colossi in Void Intercept Battles. This is due to its high magazine capacity, quick fire rate and relatively high damage per shot, resulting in high sustained DPS output over a long period of time, which is usually what you are looking for to defeat bosses with very high HP and Shield values.

We recommend switching to this weapon when you need high, sustained, single-target DPS. While machine guns are not the most accurate weapons in the game, their aiming is still decent, so try to aim for Weak Points as much as possible.

We are using the following Modules on the Tamer weapon:

Rifling Reinforcement – Improves Firearm ATK
Toxic Enhancement – Adds Toxic ATK equal to a portion of Firearm ATK

Important: This should be changed to Chill, Fire or Lightning Enhancement when fighting against a Colossus that is weak to those elements.

Action and Reaction – Improves Firearm ATK, increases Recoil
Weak Point Insight – Increases your Weak Point Damage. Slightly increases Firearm Critical Rate
Weak Point Sight – Increases your Weak Point Damage.
Fire Rate UP – Increases your Fire Rate.
Toxic Conductor – When attacking enemies inflicted with Poison, Firearm ATK is increased.

Best Reactor Stats for Freyna in The First Descendant

Your Reactor is a very important item that determines your skill damage and can also include extra modifiers that buff certain aspects of your build. The better your Reactor is, the more damage your skills will deal to enemies.

We recommend prioritizing using a Reactor with a high Skill Power and Sub Attack Power. After that, look out for Reactors with a boost to your Toxic Skill Power Boost and Tech Skill Power Boost, since most of Freyna’s skills fall into these two categories. Other good stats to have are boosts to Critical Rate or Critical Damage.

Also, look out for an Optimization Condition that you can easily fulfill with your Freyna build. For example, we have a Reactor that requires an equipped Assault Rifle to meet the Optimization Condition. Meeting the condition increases the Skill Power of your reactor, so it’s important to meet this whenever possible.

The name of a reactor can be determined by the following. For example a reactor with the name Tingling in it means it is good for anything that deals Electric damage.

Name
Type

Tingling
Electric

Burning
Fire

Toxic
Toxic

Frozen
Chill

Materialized
Non-Attribute

Mechanics
Tech

Singularity
Singular

Mixture
Fusion

Phase
Dimension

The First Descendant Freyna’s attribute is Toxic and her skills use the following types:

Dimension (Defensive Mechanism)
Tech (Toxic Trauma, Decomposed Poison, Venomous Baptism)

That means you want to pick a reactor with the following names:

Toxic Phase: Boost to Toxic and Dimension type
Toxic Mechanics: Boost to Toxic and Tech type

The First Descendant Freyna Build has three tech skills vs one Dimension-type skill. Therefore, we want to select a Toxic Mechanics reactor. However, any will do until you have a proper version of a reactor!

External Components

Finally, we have the best External Components for the TFD Freyna Build in the First Descendant.

With your External Components, you will be somewhat subject to RNG, at least until you’ve played the game for long enough to find basically every possible combination with good stat rolls.

In general, we recommend prioritizing components with the following stats:

Max Shield
Max HP
HP Recovery
DEF

Freyna’s Story in The First Descendant

A dealer of continuous damage who freely manipulated venom. Utilizes the venomous substances produced by her body to trap enemies in swamps of toxins.

Every single movement, however trivial, is considered classified for Albion Headquarters’ Special Forces, ‘Colon’. Their identities are so heavily guarded, even mentioning their real names to one another was forbidden. Thus, they resorted to communicating through their code names, even within Albion. This applied to Freyna, also known as ‘No. 6’, as well. Even with her long-time partner, ‘No. 9’, or O’Neill, no names were ever called. The moment they joined Colon, Freyna and O’Neill, who had been subsequently drafted into Colon after graduating from the military academy, were not allowed to call each other by their names for a long time.

‘Kill without hesitation’. Under the teachings of the organization, Freyna carried out her given missions with impressive efficiency. Regardless of who the target was, killing them came naturally to her. So much so, it became second nature to her, and in the process, any room for hesitation disappeared. That is, until the ‘Room 0 Incident‘.

Intel was received that a Priest of the Order of Truth would be making an appearance to oversee the Vulgus experiments being carried out in Echo Swamp. Four agents, including Freyna and O’Neill, were deployed to assassinate them. Although everyone sustained injuries after unexpectedly encountering enemy forces, they were able to complete their mission. Upon their return, they entered ‘Room 0’, which could only be entered by the Colon, together with an officer and they reported the information they had gathered.

Shortly after they began their operation report, the agents who had been deployed, except for Freyna, complained of pain before collapsing to the ground, only to begin transforming into Vulgus. Naturally, Freyna did what she had to do, without hesitation. After all, it was Colon’s duty to eliminate any threats, even if they had just been human; be they teammates or lovers. After a few gunshots, the agents, including O’Neill, fell to the ground. Freyna frantically rushed to O’Neill. With a distorted face, O’Neill painstakingly said “You must live, Freyna”. As soon as he uttered these words, he began to swell up, his body eventually rupturing. The venomous spores spread from O’Neill’s corpse, filling up Room 0. The bewildered officer quickly grabbed Freyna’s arm and dragged her out, firmly locking Room 0.

Of the four agents who were deployed for this operation, only Freyna was spared, thanks to her Arche. Her Arche produced a venom much more toxic than the one discovered in Room 0. But Freyna did not feel like she survived. She suffered from terrible trauma and insomnia, and was quarantined after she was unable to control the Arche being emitted from her body. The guilt of killing her lover with her own hands was as terrible and fatal as her Arche. However, she was determined to continue living, just as her partner had hoped. Freyna had a responsibility to fulfil his final request to her. With time, a neutralizer capable of suppressing her Arche was developed, and soon after, Freyna was able to leave quarantine.
