How to Play Lepic in the First Descendant

Lepic is arguably one of the easiest Descendants to play in The First Descendant. His skills are simple to understand and use, and his Close Call passive allows you to survive fatal damage once per cooldown, becoming temporarily invulnerable and then healing instead of dying.

Lepic is a grenadier and excels at AoE damage – if you like using explosives, then Lepic is probably the most natural pick for you.

The simplicity of Lepic’s skills and passive means that you can do pretty well even if you’re new to the game and don’t understand anything about how Lepic’s skills work. However, once you’ve got the hang of the basics, there are a couple of extra things you need to keep in mind to truly get the most out of Lepic:

Firstly, make sure to use Overclock skill as much as possible in combat. This provides you with a Skill Power boost and causes your grenades and Overkill shots to set enemies alight, burning them for extra damage. Overclock lasts for a long time, and even without any modules to increase the duration or decrease the cooldown, it’s already possible to have it active almost constantly.

Secondly, note that by default, the Overkill skill drains your MP while it is active regardless of how many shots you fire, and activating Overkill has a long Cooldown. Therefore, you should ensure you have a decent amount of MP saved up before activating it to make sure you don’t run out of MP almost immediately – if you run out after a couple of seconds, the skill is going to be almost completely wasted!

We also ranked Lepic’s kit and playstyle and added him to our The First Descendant Tier List – Best Characters.

The First Descendant Lepic Skills Explained

In this section, we are going to explain the skills available to our Lepic Build in the First Descendant, how each skill works and the best ways for you to use them.

Description

Grenade Throw
Throws a grenade forward at the enemy.

Overclock
Increases all Skill ATK and adds a Burn effect to Grenade and Overkill for a set duration.

Traction Grenade
Throws a Traction Grenade forward to pull the enemies within range.

Overkill
Fires a powerful shell at the enemy. The shell is maintained at the landing point for a set period of time, inflicting constant damage.

Close Call (Passive)
Recover HP when taking fatal damage. Long Cooldown.

Grenade Throw

Throws a grenade forward at the enemy.

Grenade Throw Skill Description:

Fire – Tech
Throws a grenade forward, inflicting AoE damage.

How to use Grenade Throw:

Grenade Throw is a useful AoE attack. It’s great at dealing damage to groups of enemies at once, but not so good against single-targets. However, if there is only one target to attack then you can use the grenade as it may still be your best option.

The great thing about Grenade Throw is its very low cooldown – you can throw a grenade once every six seconds.

Overclock

Increases all Skill ATK and adds a Burn effect to Grenade and Overkill for a set duration.

Overclock Description:

Fire – Singular
Gains Overclock for a period of time.
Overclock increases Skill Power Modifier and inflicts Burn on enemies damaged by Grnade Throw or Overkill.
Burn deals continuous damage for a certain period of time.

How to use Overclock:

Overclock is a self-buff skill that improves your Skill Power and causes your Throw Grenade and Overkill Skills to also make enemies Burn for damage over time. We recommend using Overclock as often as possible when in combat, as this will boost your damage output quite considerably. It’s especially important to ensure that Overclock is active before using Throw Grenade or Overkill.

Overclock has a 20-second cooldown and an 18-second duration, which means you can have the buff active almost constantly, as long as you can afford the MP Cost to keep casting it on cooldown.

Traction Grenade

Throws a Traction Grenade forward to pull the enemies within range.

Traction Grenade Description:

Fire – Singular
Throw a Traction Grenade forward to pull enemies for a period of time.

How to use Traction Grenade:

Traction Grenade doesn’t deal damage, but it can be used to disrupt enemies and pull them towards you. This can be used either offensively to begin an attack on a group of enemies or defensively to get some respite by disrupting enemy attacks.

Overkill

Fires a powerful shell at the enemy. The shell is maintained at the landing point for a set period of time, inflicting constant damage.

Overkill Description:

Fire – Tech
Switches the equipped weapon to Overkill.
While Overkill is active, MP is continuously consumed. When MP runs out, return to the original weapon.
Enemies hit by Overkill bullets receive AoE damage.
Overkill bullets create an AoE where they hit that deals continuous damage.

How to use Overkill:

Overkill is Lepic’s most damaging Skill by far. It has a very long cooldown, and using it will expend all of your MP. Keep in mind that the skill costs a lot of MP to initially cast, and after that it will gradually consume your remaining MP. Therefore, it’s best to wait until your MP is almost or completely full. Otherwise, you may only have the skill active for a couple of seconds, which is a waste of potential damage output.

Overkill is the ideal answer to large groups of enemies, as it will quickly rack up huge DPS in these situations. It’s decent against single targets too, but in those cases you might be better off using your normal firearm.

Close Call (Passive)

Recover HP when taking fatal damage. Long Cooldown.

Close Call Passive Description:

Fire
Upon receiving fatal damage, gain Close Call.
When Close Call is active, become immune to damage and Crowd Control effects for a period of time.
When Close Call ends, recover a portion of your Max HP.
This effect is not affected by Incoming Recovery or Outgoing Recovery.

How to use Close Call:

Close Call is a passive skill, which means it is always active. It allows you to take greater risks than you normally would get away with, since this passive lets you cheat death.

You don’t need to worry about this passive much, it will sit in the background and activate when needed to save you from fatal damage. Just remember that it has a very long Cooldown – once activated you won’t get it again for 10 minutes!

Lepic Build Modules for The First Descendant

In this section, we will explain the recommended Descendant Modules for this Lepic Build in the First Descendant.

Important! When equipping Modules on Lepic, make sure that as many modules as possible are in a slot with a matching icon (top left corner on tooltip). This will half their Module Capacity Cost.

Your Module Capacity Cost limits how many modules you can equip, and can be upgraded as you level up your character. Different modules have a different Capacity Cost, which generally depends on how powerful the Module is. This is a balancing system to prevent players from only equipping the strongest modules and having a totally overpowered character.

Best Weapons & Weapon Mods for our TFD Lepic Build

In this section, we will explain the best weapons for our TFD Lepic Build and the ideal weapon mods for them. The Thunder Cage Submachine Gun is the only important weapon for our TFD Lepic Build Loadout.

We recommend using the following weapon for Lepic in the First Descendant:

Thunder Cage – Submachine Gun

The Thunder Cage Submachine Gun is an Ultimate weapon. The firearm emits an electric shockwave that creates the appearance of thunder being directed at the enemy.

Thunder Cage Description:

When defeating an enemy, the defeated enemy has a set chance to discharge Electric Shockwave that deals Additional Damage to nearby enemies.

Basic Info

Reload Speed:  -20%

Electric Shockwave

Trigger Rate : 60%
Damage Range:  3 meter radius
Additional Damage:  Firearm Damage x 150%

This is a high DPS weapon with a quick fire-rate. Its high damage output and good versatility make it a great primary weapon for any Descendant.

We are using the following weapons mods for the Thunder Cage Weapon:

Rifling Reinforcement – Improves Firearm ATK
Better Insight – Improves Firearm Critical Hit Rate
Better Concentration – Improves Firearm Critical Hit Damage
Action and Reaction – Improves Firearm ATK, but causes a slight Recoil increase
Fire Rate Up – Increases fire rate
Concentration Priority – Increases Firearm Critical Hit Damage. Smaller decrease to Reload Time Modifier
Fire Enhancement – Adds a portion of Firearm ATK as Chill ATK.

Important: We recommend changing this module to the Toxic, Electric or Chill version when fighting a Colossus that is weak to these elements.

Prioritize first: Rifiling Reinforcements, Better Insight, Better Concentration, Action and Reaction.

Prioritize afterward: Fire Rate Up, Consume Magazines, Weak Point Insight

To max out all the mods listed here your Weapon module capacity must be maxed. If you don’t have enough slots yet, make sure to follow the prioritization queue.

How to get modules: Go to your map and then select Access Info on the top of your screen. Select Modules and type in what module you want to search for. Next, click on Acquisition Info and you will see where those have a chance to drop.

Subconsciousness – Shotgun

Subconsciousness is a rare Shotgun. We use this weapon for close-quarters burst damage – its shots spread out so they can be used to damage multiple enemies at a time, possibly one-shotting weaker mobs.

This weapon is ideal for situations when you’re forced to fight many enemies in a confined space, for example if you are defending an objective and your position is in danger of being overwhelmed by enemy numbers.

We are using the following Modules on the Subconsciousness weapon:

Shell UP – Improves Shell Capacity
Better Concentration – Improves Critical Hit Damage
Action and Reaction – Improves Firearm ATK, slightly increases Recoil
Focus Fire – Increases Weak Point Damage and Firearm Critical Hit Damage
Commando Marksmanship – Improves Firearm Critical Hit Damage, and slightly increases Firearm ATK
Marksman –  Improves Firearm Critical Rate, and slightly increases Firearm ATK
Insight Stabilizer – Reduces Recoil. Slightly increases Firearm Critical Hit Rate.

Tamer – Machine Gun

Tamer is a rare Machine Gun. It is an ideal weapon for fighting bosses, particularly the Colossi in Void Intercept Battles.

We recommend that you switch to this weapon when you need high, sustained single-target DPS. While machine guns are not the most accurate weapons in the game, their aiming is still decent, so try to aim for Weak Points as much as possible.

We are using the following Modules on the Tamer weapon:

Rifling Reinforcement – Improves Firearm ATK
Fire Enhancement – Adds Fire ATK equal to a portion of Firearm ATK

Important: This should be changed to Chill, Electric or Toxic Enhancement when fighting against a Colossus that is weak to those elements.

Action and Reaction – Improves Firearm ATK, increases Recoil
Weak Point Insight – Increases your Weak Point Damage. Slightly increases Firearm Critical Rate
Weak Point Sight – Increases your Weak Point Damage.
Fire Rate UP – Increases your Fire Rate.

Best Reactor Stats for Lepic in The First Descendant

Your Reactor is a very important item that determines your skill damage and can also include extra modifiers that buff certain aspects of your build. The better your Reactor is, the more damage your skills will deal to enemies.

We recommend prioritizing using a Reactor with a high Skill Power and Sub Attack Power. Secondly, look out for a Reactor that buffs Fire and/or Tech skills, as most of Lepic’s skills fall into these categories. After that, look out for Reactors with a boost to your Skill Critical Hit Damage, which will improve the amount of damage dealt when you land a critical hit.

The name of a reactor can be determined by the following. For example a reactor with the name Tingling in it means it is good for anything that deals Electric damage.

Name
Type

Tingling
Electric

Burning
Fire

Toxic
Toxic

Frozen
Chill

Materialized
Non-Attribute

Mechanics
Tech

Singularity
Singular

Mixture
Fusion

Phase
Dimension

The First Descendant Lepic’s attribute is Fire and his skills use the following types:

Tech (Grenade, Overkill)
Singular (Overclock, Traction Grenade)

That means you want to pick a reactor with the following names:

Burning Singularity: Boost to Fire and Singular type
Burning Mechanics: Boost to Fire and Tech

Because our The First Descendant Lepic build focuses on Grenade and Overkill damage, we want to select a Burning Mechanics reactor. However, any will do until you have a proper version of a reactor!

External Components

Finally, we have the best External Components for the Lepic build in the First Descendant.

With your External Components, you will be somewhat subject to RNG, at least until you’ve played the game for long enough to find basically every possible combination with good stat rolls.

In general, we recommend prioritizing components with the following stats:

Max Shield
Max HP
HP Recovery
DEF

Lepic’s Story in The First Descendant

An AoE dealer who uses grenades to attack. Clears the battlefield with his right arm and grenades which boast a powerful performance.

Jonathan Lepic of the dauntless 44th Grenadier Squad lost all his comrades, and his right arm, in a battle that because the final operation for his squad. Fighting until the bitter end, Lepic became a legendary soldier who annihilated the Vulgus corps with his one remaining atm. The dog tags of his fallen comrades clutched in his hands only added to his immeasurable grief after his lonely return.

The Magisters were interested in the physical capabilities of Lepic, the sole survivor. What if he was a Descendant that the Arche test missed? What if this was all a trial for a new Descendant? Eventually, the Magisters offered an Arche Drive Tactical Prosthetic Arm transplant to Lepic, who at that point, had given up on everything.

Although this device was only for Descendants, as those without Arche could die from a cerebral sensory overload, if Lepic was fated to prevail, it would be a golden opportunity for the Albion military to gain an exceptional Descendant… and for Lepic to return to the front lines. There was no need to ask Lepic twice.

Fortunately, the transplant was a success. Lepic’s dormant Arche was awakened by the pain from the surgery, and Lepic, who succeeded in controlling his prosthetic arm, officially became a Descendant. The last of the Grenadiers had returned to avenge his comrades.
