Throne and Liberty Crossbow Beginner Build Guide

Welcome to the Throne and Liberty Crossbow Beginner Build Guide.
In this guide, we will explain how to create a simple but powerful Crossbow build that is perfect for new or casual players. Our beginner builds are easier to create and play than our endgame builds (such as the Crossbow & Dagger Build) because they have fewer essential skills and passives, and equipment that is generally easier to obtain.
It will take you considerably less time to set up and learn to play this build than builds intended for endgame, so this is the ideal starting point if you’re quite new to the game, or if you only intend to play the game casually and don’t want to put much time or effort into hard PvE dungeons or PvP combat.

Crossbow Beginner Build Setup for Throne and Liberty
In this section, we will explain the important components of the build, such as stats, passives, skills and equipment for our Crossbow Beginner Build in Throne and Liberty.
Weapons Main vs Off-hand
Main-hand: Crossbow
Off-hand: Daggers
Our main weapon slot is the Crossbow and our off-hand weapon slot is the Dagger. These two synergize extremely well and complement each other. Passives from your secondary weapon are still active when you are holding your primary weapon, and vice versa. This makes it possible to apply the Dagger’s passives when using the Crossbow for example. The Dagger gives lots of crit bonuses, so this is a useful weapon to apply to any other weapon in the game, and it is especially good in combination with high-damage weapons like the Crossbow.
If you’re just starting out then you can equip whichever Crossbow and Daggers you find, and keep replacing them with better ones that you find when levelling up. You don’t need specific weapons for this build to work, but we will include a more precise equipment section later in the guide for players who already reached maximum level and want to put a bit more time into optimising their gear.
Stats
The most important stat for the Beginner Crossbow Build is Dexterity, which improves your Critical Chance and Critical Damage. We focus heavily on Dexterity for this build, since we’re very heavily focused on crit with this setup, and Dexterity enhances this playstyle.
We recommend working towards a stat distribution that looks similar to the following:
10 Strength
44 Dexterity
10 Wisdom
10 Perception
Please note that you can also place a few points in Strength to increase your health values if you feel like you are taking too much damage and struggling to stay alive.
Defence Skill
Each build in Throne and Liberty can slot one defence skill. Because we are using a Dagger and Crossbow we have a choice between two defensive skills:
Daggers – Block Blade
Crossbow – Rupturing Parry
For this build, we are using Block Blade, which allows you to hide after defending against a Fury Attack, gaining extra Mana Regen and a guaranteed Critical Hit.
Active Skills
Crossbow Skills
Mortal Mark – Deals damage with a 100% chance of Weaken that leaves a marking for 3s. You deal additional damage to a target with the marking. Your damage against the marked target will be accumulated, and an explosion will occur when the marking expires, dealing bonus damage based on the accumulated damage. The marking stacks up to 2 times.
Quick Fire – Attack 3 times consecutively. Deals extra damage to targets Weaken by you. Cooldown decreases by 10% whenever there is a Critical Hit.
Nimble Leap – Leap in the designated direction and improve your Attack Speed, Range and Critical Damage (when upgraded) for a short time.
Merciless Barrage – Shoots to the designated direction with both hands, 16 times each. The damage amount is increased, stacking up to 10 times, if arrows hit the same target repeatedly. The number of attacks can be increased up to 24 times each, based on the attack chance of the wielded Off-Hand Weapon.
Recoil Shot – Deals damage, with bonus damage applied if used immediately after a Mobility skill like Nimble Leap.
Dagger Skills
Inject Venom – Adds Weaken: Poison effect to all attacks for 9s. The poison lasts 6s and deals damage each second while stopping Health Regen. Stacks up to 20 times.
Passive Skills
Below are explanations of the passives, including how they can synergise with other passives and skills.
Crossbow Passives
Ambidexterity – Increases Off-Hand Weapon Maximum Damage. Off-Hand Weapon Melee, Ranged, and Magic Critical Hit are increased.
Opportunist – Decreases all skill cooldowns if Weaken is applied, and by a greater amount for Weaken that is stacked 2 times or higher. Every time you land an attack, the remaining Duration of all Weaken effects on the target inflicted by you increases very slightly.
Nature’s Power – Increases Damage Bonus and Skill Damage Boost after using Mobility skill.
Eagle Vision – Ranged and Magic Hit increase upon attack. Ranged and Magic Hit and Weaken Chance increase based on the distance between the player and the target (more distance = higher chance).
Dagger Passives
Vicious Fangs – Attacking targets afflicted by your Poison, increases Melee, Ranged, Magic Critical Hit.
Assassin’s Instincts – Increases Melee, Ranged, and Magic Critical Hit.
Profuse Poison – Increases Poison Duration and Poison Damage during the day. Increases Poison Damage by a much larger amount at night, but with no duration buff.
Wrathful Edge – Significantly increases Critical Damage.
Skills and Passives Upgrade Priority
Upgrading Skills and Passives in the right order will make combat a lot easier in Throne and Liberty. However, it also takes quite a long because you need so-called “Growth Stones” to upgrade and the higher quality ones are difficult to get. Therefore it is important to plan ahead which skills you want to upgrade first.
Note: You unlock higher level skills already in a higher quality such as Rare or Epic. So you won’t have to upgrade all of the Skills.

Equipment for the Crossbow Beginner Build
When you are leveling up this build don’t worry too much about gear. The gear itself only becomes important after level 50. Therefore make sure to simply equip whatever you find and focus on leveling up your skills. Make sure to read our Throne and Liberty Equipment Guide to understand the basics of how gear works. Additionally, we also recommend reading the Throne and Liberty Gear Enchanting Guide to get an understanding of how you can improve your gear and why it is important.
Please note that since this is a beginner build, the gear mentioned below is just a guide – you can get by just fine if you decide to use a different gear setup than what is mentioned here. You can click on the items in the tables below to find out more about them.
How To Obtain the Gear
The easiest way to get the beginner gear is to do as many daily quests as possible. That way you can farm “Contract Coins”. You can pick up daily quests in Kastleton at the Contract Manager Noss at the townsquare. The Daily quests often reward you with things like:
Quality Lithograph: Weapons
Quality Lithograph: Accessories
Quality Lithograph: Armor
With these Lithographs you can then craft your starter gear! Sometimes the Contract Manager might not have the Lithographs, you can try to refresh the page and new ones will pop up.
Contract Coin Merchant: Next to Noss you can also find the Contract Coin Merchant Kail who will sell you these Lithographs directly (scroll down to the bottom of his list) for 100 Contract Coin each. However, we recommend just doing the dailies to get the Quality Lithographs because the coins are better spent on other items.
Now you can simply move up the stairs and you will find the Weapon Crafter Ragere, Armor Crafter Rachel and Accessories Crafter Marianne. With the green Quality Lithographs you can craft any of the green items they offer. Of course, you will need some crafting materials, but you often get those by simply doing the dailies. Otherwise simply click on the crafting materials icon and click on “how to acquire” and it will show you where to find them.

How to Play the Crossbow Beginner Build in TL
The Crossbow Build does not have solid combos to the same extent that weapons like Greatsword do. The Crossbow is more about managing your debuffs and cooldowns to deal the maximum possible damage to the enemy, keeping in mind that your attack speed and high critical chance & damage are your main strengths with a setup like this.
There are three main areas that you should focus on, to begin with:
Keep enemies Poisoned – Remember to keep using Inject Venom to infuse your attacks with Poison. Not only does the Poison deal damage over time, but it will activate the Vicious Fangs passive, making all your attacks more likely to land a Critical Hit.
Use Mortal Mark – Mortal Mark is a great skill for dealing extra damage to enemies. Cast it on high priority targets, especially those with high HP, to get them down faster.
Movement Skills – Using a Movement Skill like Nimble Leap before you cast Recoil Shot will apply a 300% damage buff to the latter skill – try to always do this when possible and you will get much more value out of the skill.
Crossbow Tips & Tricks
Don’t focus too much on gear early on. Gear farming only becomes important after you hit max level.
Get equipment that gives you extra Max Health or Dexterity stats at the beginning.
Always keep track of your cooldowns, especially on the high cooldown Skills.
