Crafting is an essential part of Soulframe’s progression, as it will allow you to get new weapons and armour, faction totems, and even unlock entire classes.

How to Unlock Crafting in Soulframe

When you first start off with Soulframe, you can’t craft any items and are pretty much stuck with your starting gear.

To solve this problem, you need to find and recruit a certain Ancestor NPC to your Nightfold base (press TAB at any point to teleport to Nightfold, which acts as your hub area).

To unlock crafting in Soulframe, you need to recruit an NPC called Tuvalkane.

How to Recruit Tuvalkane the Blacksmith in Soulframe

Here is a quick step-by-step guide on how to recruit Tuvalkane in Soulframe:

Head to Oro’s Well (see map location below)
Go into the quarry, fight off the enemies and pick up the fallen helmet. By this point, you should have a quest objective, so you can follow your Sparrow if you get lost.
Carry the helmet north to the abandoned forge. You can drop it to fight off any enemies who get in your way.
When you reach the objective, Tuvalkane‘s ghost will appear and talk to you.
After the dialogue ends, interact with Tuvalkane, and she will be transported to your Nightfold.
Enter Nightfold (press TAB) and approach the glowing orb of light. Her forge will spawn, and you can speak to her at any time to open the crafting menu.

Once you’ve completed these steps, you have unlocked the crafting system in Soulframe. We’ll now explore how crafting works.

How to Craft Items in Soulframe

If you’re a beginner in Soulframe, there’s a good chance there will only be one or two items available to craft (or none at all). Before you can craft anything, there are a couple of things you need to do.

Find the Fragments

Most items require you to collect several recipe fragments before you can craft them. Fragments are usually found in treasure chests. The number of fragments required to unlock an item varies. The best way to unlock more Fragments is to keep playing the game, exploring new areas and dungeons, completing quests and Faction Tales, and opening all of the chests you find along the way.

Collect the Materials

While finding fragments is the prerequisite to crafting an item in Soulframe, it is not the only requirement. You’ll also need some particular crafting materials in the specified amount. Once again, the best way to gather these is by playing the game, farming enemies. Open every chest, break boxes and barrels, loot enemies, harvest scrap metal from weapon racks and harvest plants. Over time, you will accumulate a decent quantity of crafting materials. Shop NPCs may also sell you some of the crafting materials.

Finally, Craft the Item

When you have all of the required materials, you can return to Tuvalkane in the Nightfold. Select the desired item and click to craft it. You also need to select a Joinery item. This will impact the final quality of the item. For example, with weapons, a high-quality Joinery like Eldlore can improve the weapon’s damage. It’s best to use lower quality Joineries if you’re only crafting the item to level up Tuvalkane, and high quality Joineries for items that you plan to use.

Crafting in Soulframe is not instantaneous; it takes several hours to complete. The timer will keep ticking if you log out of the game, so crafting items first thing in the morning or just before you log off for the day is a common way to go about it. When the required time has passed, return to Tuvalkane and check on the “Assembled” tab to claim your item.

How to Level Up Tuvalkane in Soulframe

Levelling up your Blacksmith in Soulframe is a simple but time-consuming process. You just need to keep crafting items – each item you craft gives Tuvalkane XP, and after a few items, she’ll have enough XP to rank up.

The more powerful items are locked until you’ve ranked up a few times, so levelling her up is a vital part of Soulframe’s progression system.

The best way to level up your Blacksmith is to keep playing the game, grinding, looting and completing Faction Tales. Periodically check back to see if there are any items you can craft. You might have to craft a few duplicate items to get enough XP to rank up. It feels a bit wasteful, but don’t worry about it; this is normal.
