How to Get New Weapons & Armour in Soulframe

As you might have already guessed, the basic starting equipment you get in Soulframe is far from the best the game has to offer, and replacing it with more powerful armour, and different weapons, is a vital aspect of progressing and improving your character.
However, the game doesn’t currently do much to explain how you can obtain new equipment, and you don’t find any by looting enemies or treasure chests. So what are you supposed to do?
In this quick guide, we will explain how you can obtain new weapons, armour and talismans in Soulframe. This guide is up to date with the latest version of Soulframe.

How to Get Better Equipment in Soulframe
Unlike many games, Soulframe doesn’t typically allow players to get new weapons and armour directly from looting containers or enemies that they encounter. This can leave some players feeling a bit unsure after they play the game for a couple of hours and don’t have any new gear to show for it.
In Soulframe, (almost) all equippable items are obtained by crafting them. This is a multi-stage process, and before you can get started, you’ll need to recruit the Blacksmith Tuvalkane to your Nightfold camp.
Once you’ve recruited her, you can visit her at any time in the Nightfold to view the items that you can craft.
Crafting an item has the following prerequisites:
- Fragments – Each item requires a certain number of fragments to be found before it can be crafted. These are found randomly when looting containers in Soulframe, particularly the rare treasure chests (with a flower painted on them), the large Ode’n Chests (found in enemy camps) or boss chests (often located near a Bannaret boss, requiring a key to open). Fragments can also be farmed in the Crypt of the Circade, but this process can be a little inconsistent. Rarer items (which are usually more powerful) require more fragments to craft. The most common items only require one fragment, so you can craft them pretty early on.
- Crafting Materials – Every item requires three crafting materials (in quantities) in addition to the Fragments. There is a wide range of crafting materials, including scrap metals, wood, rare stones and quenching acids. I’ll explain a bit more about how you can obtain them later in the guide, but the tldr is to loot everything, harvest plants and smash every breakable container you come across.
- Dracs – Each item Tuvalkane crafts also costs some Dracs, usually a few thousand. Dracs are easily obtained by simply playing the game and looting everything.
- Tuvalkane’s Rank – Every item she crafts will add XP, eventually ranking up Tuvalkane. Some items can be crafted immediately, but the best ones are locked behind higher ranks. Keep crafting new items to increase her rank, as this is currently the only way to obtain most of the equipment in the game. You can XP farm by crafting lots of cheap duplicate items.
Once you have everything you need, get Tuvalkane to craft the item for you. You’ll need to wait some time for it to complete, usually between 4 and 26 hours, depending on how rare the item is. The timer keeps ticking even when you are offline. When the timer is complete, return to Tuvalkane and view the Assembled tab, where you can claim your new items.
Some classes are also unlocked via crafting, along with a plethora of powerful weapons and armour, so it’s worth getting this stuff done – the sooner, the better.
How to Upgrade Weapons
You can upgrade your weapons in Soulframe by Reforging them. Some crafting materials, such as Eldlore, are used in the Reforging tab to add a small damage bonus to the weapon. You’ll also need more regular crafting materials to complete this process.
Unlike the initial crafting stage, Reforging is completed instantly. You still need to claim the reforged item from the Assembled tab, though.
Where to Obtain Crafting Materials in Soulframe
You’ll need to find a lot of Crafting Materials in Soulframe if you want to craft everything, and there is currently no in-game guide explaining where you need to look to find items.
In general, looting everything you come across will earn you a wide variety of crafting materials in good quantities. I recommend farming the Faction Tale quests, particularly the two and three star ones, because they will naturally lead you to locations with lots of loot, increasing your Faction Standing in the process (another vital progression system which we discussed in our Soulframe Factions Guide).
However, here are some pointers on where you look for different kinds of items:
- Common Crafting Materials – Common items such as Knotwood and Patch Leather are very easy to find. They drop from regular treasure chests, enemies (loot the small sack that sometimes drops next to a fallen enemy) and sometimes fall out of crates, barrels and other containers when you break them with your weapon. Loot everything and break every container, and you’ll soon accumulate a large stockpile of these materials.
- Ode’n Crafting Materials – Such as Corrupt Onyx and Ode’n Synsilk. These are very similar to Common Crafting Materials, but they only drop from Ode’n sources, such as looting them from their bodies or from treasure chests found in their encampments. They are visually distinct from other treasure chests, being made from black metal, so they can be easily identified.
- Rare Crafting Materials – Items such as Gossamer Quartz, Moranite and Sappheline. These look similar to the common materials but have a much lower drop rate. They don’t normally drop from regular loot, but will only be found in rare treasure chests or in the Crypt of the Circade. Your faction’s travelling merchant will sometimes sell them. It is common to run into the problem of lacking these items when you begin crafting rare weapons and armour. Farming them is possible, but it can be time-consuming and frustrating.
- River Pearls technically fall into this category, but you can obtain them quickly and easily. Check our River Pearl Farming Guide to learn more.
- Scrap Metal – Many items require Scrap Iron, Scrap Steel or Scrap Brass. These can be obtained by looting the weapon racks commonly found in dungeons (particularly the Undercity) and around enemy encampments. Fort Curlail is a great location to farm these, as there are lots of weapon racks in the fort. But the enemies there are around Level 25, so new players will struggle (you can run away from the enemies and loot everything while on the run, though).
- Quenching Acid – All lootable plants in the game currently yield Quenching Acid when you harvest them. The plants usually glow red or yellow.
