Welcome to our Nam Chae-Young Build Guide for Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE.
In this guide, we will explain how each one of Nam Chae-Young’s skills work and how best to use them. We will provide more general tips for how to get the most out of Nam Chae-Young.
We will also include a build guide for Nam Chae-Young. While Hunter builds aren’t as widely customisable as Sung Jinwoo, you can still customise your equipment and level up your skills. We’ll walk you through these so you can find the best items and prioritise the best skill upgrades first.
Please note that this guide is currently a work in progress. It will be updated over the course of Arise Overdrive’s early access period and following on from the full launch of the game.

Nam Chae-Young Skill Overview – SL Arise Overdrive
Here is an overview of Nam Chae-Young’s skills in Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE, and how to use them.
Basic Skills
Basic Attack
Chae-Young fires a bolt filled with cold energy forward.
A basic single-target attack. You can chain them together; the last two attacks in the chain fire two bolts instead of one. Good for chipping away at a boss’ HP bar from a safe distance.
K13 – Reactive Type Ice Grenade
Chae-Young throws a grenade forward that spins and continuously releases ice energy.
This is Chae-Young’s heavy attack – press C to activate it. It deals damage over time in a small area, and is very good at freezing targets, including bosses. Since it’s a Heavy Attack, the cooldown is only a couple of seconds so you can spam this constantly to keep a damage over time effect on the boss that will also freeze them on cooldown, giving you a safe window to use your other skills without being interrupted or pursued.
K63 – Ice Grenade
After Chae-Young throws the K63 – Ice Grenade in the air, she kicks it powerfully with her foot. It inflicts Freeze on enemies when it hits.
Press Q to activate K63 Ice Grenade. It causes a frost explosion for a burst of AoE damage. It’s also very good at freezing enemies in their tracks, even several enemies at once.
Icy Step
Chae-Young fires three arrows charged with icy energy to emit an icy shockwave.
Press E to activate Icy Step. Deals a modest amount of damage and can stagger enemies, potentially knocking them over. There’s nothing too special about this skill, but you should still use it on cooldown simply because it’s better than Basic Attacks.
Special Skills
Icy Wind
After throwing the K13 – Reactive Freeze Grenade in the direction she’s facing, Chae-Young fires 3 arrows each charged with icy energy. When they hit an enemy, there’s a high chance they will inflict Freeze.
Icy Wind is a Support Skill, which means it is only available when Chae-Young is supporting Sung Jinwoo, not when you are playing as her directly. I’ve found this to be one of the best Support Skills in the game, because it triggers when Sung Jinwoo uses a QTE Skill (which is usually very often) and is almost guaranteed to freeze the boss. This works as a crutch in very tough boss fights, giving you a safe window to unleash bursts of damage on the boss. Just beware that a boss who is frozen during an attack animation will complete their attack as soon as they thaw out.
Tip of the Iceberg
QTE Skill. Chae-Young fires a projectile while sliding forward, does a backflip, and fires another powerful bolt to Freeze enemies she hits.
Chae-Young automatically uses Tip of the Iceberg when you switch to her with Left Shift when prompted. Make sure you are in a good position to make the attack connect before making the switch.
Icy Flow
Synchro Chain. Chae-Young slides forward while releasing a projectile, then lets loose a powerful ice arrow from midair.
Icy Flow is Chae-Young’s Synchro Chain skill. She uses it when you press T (when prompted) to activate your Hunter party’s Synchro Chain; all Hunters in the party will then activate their Synchro Chain at the same time.
Light-Freezing Arrow
Ultimate Skill. Chae-Young throws a freezing grenade into the air then fires a bolt to detonate it. Using this skill grants the entire party Cold Ice Damage Increase for a certain amount of time.
Press R when your ultimate is charged to activate Light-Freezing Arrow. A good ultimate for both single-target and AoE situations.
Unique Skills
Dash Combo Attack
When tapping the Basic Attack Button after performing Dash, the user can use Dash Combo Attack.
Back Dash Combo Attack
When tapping the Basic Attack Button after performing Back Dash, the user can use Back Dash Combo Attack.
Deflect Combo Attack
When tapping the Basic Attack Button after performing Deflect, the user can use Deflect Combo Attack.
How to Play Nam Chae-Young
Nam Chae-Young is often one of the first Hunters unlocked by players in Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE. This because she is a low rank Hunter and quite cheap and easy to recruit. Despite this, she is still very useful, but you will need to employ a patient playstyle to safely DPS bosses.
Chae-Young has no melee attacks, so should stay at long-range almost all the time. Kite enemies around, throwing your Ice Grenades and shooting bolts at them whenever you have a safe moment. This way, you can gradually defeat any boss in the game while avoiding most of their dangerous attacks.
Chae-Young is, in my opinion, one of the best Support Hunters for Sung Jinwoo, especially for new players. This is because she can be activated very easily (whenever you use a QTE skill with Left Shift) and will freeze the boss, giving you a window to deal damage safely. This is great if you are struggling with one of the difficult Story Mode bosses in Arise Overdrive, for example.
Nam Chae-Young’s Overdrive fires a barrage of freezing arrows. The last arrow will always inflict Cold Ice on the target. You can regenerate her Overdrive by throwing K63 and K13 ice grenades, using the Icy Step skill or the third attack in the Basic Attack chain.
Nam Chae-Young Skill Upgrade Priorities – SL Arise Overdrive

As mentioned above, Hunter skills in Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE are split up into Basic Skills, Special Skills and Unique Skills. Of these, only Basic and Special Skills can be upgraded. The upgrades are done in groups – for example, you upgrade all Basic Skills at once, rather than upgrading the skills individually.
It is generally more important to upgrade the Basic Skills rather than the Special Skills, because the Basic Skills are used much more often (this group includes your Basic Attack, Heavy Attack and the skills activated by pressing Q or E). So if you have to make a choice between the two, always go for Basic Skills.
In practice, however, it is usually easier to upgrade them in a balanced manner, upgrading both groups to rank 2, then upgrading them both to rank 3, and so forth. This is because each tier is significantly more expensive than the last, so rushing a full set of Basic Skill upgrades usually isn’t possible unless you’ve played through the whole game without doing any upgrades.
