Song Chiyul Skill Overview – SL Arise Overdrive
Here is an overview of Song Chiyul’s skills in Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE, and how to use them.
Basic Skills
Scorching Heat
Chiyul releases the power of flame.
Quick single target fire attacks. You can chain them together to activate a range of different attack animations.
Incinerate
Chiyul gathers the power of fire in his hands and unleashes it at enemies in front of himself. Damage dealt to targets inflicted with Burn is increased.
This is Chiyul’s heavy attack – press C to activate it. While it looks like an AoE spell, Incinerate does pretty good single-target damage and spamming it is a viable way to bring down bosses.
Hellfire
Chiyul steps back and creates a flame whirlwind that pulls enemies in. This inflicts the Burn effect on hit targets, dealing damage over time.
Press Q to activate Hellfire. It can stagger and damage several enemies at once, making it ideal for clearing out trash waves.
Red Lotus Flower
Recalling his time as a swordsman, Chiyul imbues his sword with the power of flame. This skill can be used up to 3 times, and deals increased damage to targets inflicted with Burn.
Press E to activate Red Lotus Flower. Try and remember to inflict Burn on the target before casting it (for example using Hellfire) to maximise the damage.
Special Skills
Scorching Cleave
Chiyul creates a flame whirlwind that pulls enemies in, then slashes them with a flaming sword. Using this skill increases the active character’s Heavy Attack and Weapon Skill damage temporarily.
Storm Raven is a Support Skill, which means it is only available when Chiyul is supporting Sung Jinwoo, not when you are playing as him directly. It can be used when Sung Jinwoo uses Dash Combo twice within 5 seconds, or when there are 3 or more normal monsters nearby.
Scorching Heat Penetration
QTE Skill. Chiyul pierces a target with his sword, then focuses fire magic into it to create a powerful explosion. This increases the entire team’s HEavy Attack damage and inflicts hit targets with Burn of a certain amount of time.
Chiyul automatically uses Scorching Heat Penetration when you switch to him with Left Shift when prompted. Make sure you are in a good position to make the attack connect before making the switch. It also buffs your Heavy Attack damage, so you might want to focus on using these shortly afterwards.
Special Iaido: Sketch
Synchro Chain. Chiyul strikes the enemy by unleashing a sword strike imbued with the power of fire.
Sketch is Chiyul’s Synchro Chain skill. She uses it when you press T (when prompted) to activate your Hunter party’s Synchro Chain; all Hunters in the party will then activate their Synchro Chain at the same time.
Special Iaido: Fire Demon
Chiyul imbues his sword with the power of fire and makes a forward-facing slash with all the expertise of a swordsman. Damage dealt to targets affected by Burn increases.
Press R when your ultimate is charged to activate Fire Demon. This ultimate hits targets in a narrow cone-shaped area in front of you. Try to Burn the target, for example with the Hellfire Skill, before using Fire Demon, because the ultimate does more damage against Burning enemies.
Unique Skills
Dash Combo Attack
When tapping the Basic Attack Button after performing Dash, the user can use Dash Combo Attack.
Back Dash Combo Attack
When tapping the Basic Attack Button after performing Back Dash, the user can use Back Dash Combo Attack.
Deflect Combo Attack
When tapping the Basic Attack Button after performing Deflect, the user can use Deflect Combo Attack.
How to Play Song Chiyul
Chiyul is a fire mage who fights with a sword, effectively giving him a “melee mage” playstyle.
Try to ensure that enemies are afflicted with Burn before you use his ultimate or the Red Lotus Flower skill, because this will maximise the damage output of those skills.
When you have nothing better to use, spamming Incinerate by pressing C is a good way to deal consistent damage to your target.
Song Chiyul’s Overdrive pulls nearby monsters into a powerful flame explosion, inflicting Scorch on all of them. It can be recharged by casting Incinerate, which further incentivises Incinerate spam when playing as Chiyul.
Song Chiyul Skill Upgrade Priorities – SL Arise Overdrive

As mentioned above, Hunter skills in Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE are split up into Basic Skills, Special Skills and Unique Skills. Of these, only Basic and Special Skills can be upgraded. The upgrades are done in groups – for example, you upgrade all Basic Skills at once, rather than upgrading the skills individually.
It is generally more important to upgrade the Basic Skills rather than the Special Skills, because the Basic Skills are used much more often (this group includes your Basic Attack, Heavy Attack and the skills activated by pressing Q or E). So if you have to make a choice between the two, always go for Basic Skills.
In practice, however, it is usually easier to upgrade them in a balanced manner, upgrading both groups to rank 2, then upgrading them both to rank 3, and so forth. This is because each tier is significantly more expensive than the last, so rushing a full set of Basic Skill upgrades usually isn’t possible unless you’ve played through the whole game without doing any upgrades.
