Note: High-Level Weapon Cores boost your weapons’ damage numbers into insanity. Make sure to get weapon cores as soon as possible!
Hammer and Anvil Modules

Modules are an important part of every weapon build in The First Descendant. For the Hammer and Anvil shotgun, we want to focus on critical hit and magazine size.
I currently have Chill Enhancement slotted, but use whatever elemental damage your enemy is weak to.
| Module Slot | Module Name |
|---|---|
| 1 | Rifling Reinforcement |
| 2 | Action and Reaction |
| 3 | Fire Rate UP |
| 4 | Shell UP |
| 5 | Recycling Genius |
| 6 | Edging Shot |
| 7 | Reload Expert |
| 8 | Better Insight |
| 9 | Better Concentration |
| 10 | Chill Enhancement |
Weapon Readjustment
You can use the Weapon Readjustment at the Weapon Workbench in Albion. Here are the best Weapon Readjustments for the Hammer and Anvil:
- Firearm ATK
- Rounds per Magazine
- Firearm Critical Hit Damage
- Firearm Critical Hit Rate
Try to upgrade the Weapon Readjustments to at least purple quality.
Weapon Cores
Weapon Cores juice up your damage quite tremendously. However, especially the later-level Weapon Cores are difficult to get. So start with whatever weapon cores you have available. Weapon Cores drop in the Void Erosion Purge endgame activity.
Higher level Weapon Cores drop in the higher level Void Erosion Purge levels in The First Descendant. However, you can gradually work towards the highest level. I recommend trying to get to level six as soon as possible, since it won’t require clearing many stages and will already increase the power of your weapon tremendously.
Best Weapon Cores for the Hammer and Anvil
Fire Rate (Free Augmentation)
Chill ATK (Attribute Augmentation)
Hip Fire Accuracy (Precision Augmentation)
Recoil (Precision Augmentation)
Flex (Special Augmentation)
The first two cores are most important, the others don’t really matter that much!
Hammer and Anvil Lore
![]()
“Use mid-range firepower to keep the enemy tied down, while a highly mobile combat unit flanks the enemy to get in at close range and rip the Vulgus to shreds with lethal force.”
The aptly named “Hammer and Anvil” is a classic tactic that existed in Ingris even before the Apocalypse, but today it has been modernized by frontline soldiers and has produced remarkable results in smashing the thick armor of the Vulgus. However, this tactic has a number of limitations.
First of all, the anvil requires overwhelming firepower to suppress the Vulgus ground troops, but heavy weaponry cannot always be deployed since it does not allow for a quick disengagement. Furthermore, the capable mobile unit with the role of the hammer has shown a high mortality rate, making this tactic a difficult one to implement.
However, humanity is constantly being reinforced by Descendants, the ultimate tactical options capable of carrying out both roles, the hammer and the anvil. So, what they need now is…
“What else? A monster of a weapon that has both the hammer and the anvil in one piece!”
– Deslin, during a weapons development meeting at the Deslio Armory.
