How Subclass Skill Line Leveling works
Subclassed skill lines in ESO are basically their own separate versions of existing class skill lines. Subclassed skill lines accrue experience and level up at a slower rate compared to your primary class skill lines. Subclass skill lines share progression towards Rank 50 across your entire account.
To earn experience for a subclassed skill line and its abilities, you must slot skills from that line onto your active ability bar. Slotting more skills from a particular line will cause it to progress faster. Slotting skills from two different subclass lines simultaneously is considered an efficient method for leveling both. To maximize XP gain, it is recommended that your character is Level 50, as Experience gains is reduced below this level.
The FASTEST Method to level Subclasses: Master Writs
The most effective and by far the fastest way to level subclass skill lines quickly is by completing and turning in Sealed Master Writs. This method is particularly powerful because it provides instant massive experience gain, allowing you to easily manage your slotted skills and active XP boosts. This strategy is referred to as power leveling subclassing in ESO.
How Subclass leveling with Master Writs works
When you’re ready to level a subclass line, use XP boosters (see below) and turn in the writs. Using an add-on like Writworthy on PC can automate the hand-in process, making it incredibly swift.
1. Craft Master Writ Items
Craft the items required by your sealed Master Writs at the appropriate crafting stations. You do not need to go running around Tamriel to find the Crafting Stations, instead you can port to a players home that has complete Grandmaster Crafting Stations. If you are not part of a guild that has these stations, you can search for them in our Player Houses Showcase Page, in-game in Home Tours or ask in zone.
2. Slot Skills
Slot the skills from the subclass skill lines you want to level on your active ability bar. The more skills you slot from a specific skill line, the faster that skill line will level up.
3. Port to Mastercraft Mediator Rolis Hlaalu
Rolis Hlaalu can be found in Deshaan, Grahtwood and Stormhaven.
4. Apply XP Buffs
Allocate 50 Champion points to the new Green Discipline Artisan CP passive which increases your XP by 15% for currently active skills and skill lines. If you use crafted Ambrosias, remember to allocate 30 Points into the Rationer Champion Passive and 3 Skill Points to the Provisioning Passive
Connoisseur.
- Crown Experience Scrolls 50%, 100%, 150%.
Psijic Ambrosia 50%.
Aetherial Ambrosia 100%.
Mythic Aetherial Ambrosia 150%.
5. Hand In Writs
This is where you will receive the large XP payout. The XP bar and the “quest completed” notifications will show up slowly, but the actual XP is applied immediately and you do not need to wait for the notifications.
6. Manage Slotted Skills
Pay attention as your slotted skills and skill lines level up. As soon as a skill hits rank four, allowing it to be morphed, or a skill line ranks up allowing a new skill to be slotted, update your ability bar Once a skill line is maxed out, you can swap it for a new one at a Respec Shrine (costing 1,500 gold or a Respec scroll).
Preparing your characters for Master Writs
This method requires you to have characters with maxed crafting levels (50 in each profession) and necessary passives learned (like Solvent Proficiency for Alchemy,
Potency Improvement and
Aspect Improvement for Enchanting) to obtain and complete master writs. Learning as many traits, recipes, and full motif books as possible increases the drop chance of master writs from daily writs.
You will also need the materials required to complete the writs, which can be expensive if bought from guild traders. Alchemy and Enchanting master writs in ESO are often preferred for levelling due to simpler crafting requirements compared to gear crafting writs, although Alchemy writs tend to be more expensive.
Alternate Methods for Efficient Subclass Leveling
Several methods exist for gaining experience in ESO, and most of them you can apply to subclass leveling. You can also level up skills by slotting subclass skills and playing normally it just isn’t as efficient. Keep in mind that lower level characters will receive les experience than a level 50 character.
Grinding Spots
Traditional grinding locations are still viable for gaining subclass XP. These involve repeatedly killing large groups of mobs, typically at a dolmen, Spellscar or instanced locations like Blackrose Prison or Skyreach Catacombs. ESO Aliki’r Dolmen grind is extremely popular for leveling up characters due to them being close to Wayshrines. There is always a group up, just type “+” in the chat on EU or “X” on the NA servers and start grinding!
Random Daily Dungeon
Completing a random daily normal dungeon provides a large XP bonus once per day. We recommend this even if you primarily use other methods.
