What This Addon Does”I Heard a Rumor” is an immersion-focused addon for Elder Scrolls Online that revives the classic Daggerfall-style system of asking NPCs for information. It makes the act of getting lost and finding your way meaningful again even in an MMO overflowing with map markers and UI hand-holding.
With this addon, you can:
First, get tavern gossip and ambient worldbuilding through localized “rumors” (BREWERS)
then:
– Ask friendly NPCs about places in the world
– Get actual spoken-style directions (e.g., “It’s just east of here”, or “That’s quite far, to the southwest.”)
– Restore a sense of exploration and scale to the vast world of ESO
And all of this works across zones because Tamriel is massive, and its time that meant something again.
How It Works
Ask any friendly NPC (not just innkeepers!) for directions. (IMPORTANT! DON’T FORGET TO SET THE KEYBIND!!)
The addon determines your location and the location of the active rumor.
The system integrates with the world map intelligently, switching between local and zone maps when needed.
Coming Soon: Speechcraft System
In future versions, well implement a Speechcraft system to deepen the immersion:
NPCs will judge whether they want to talk to you.
Some might not know the place you’re asking about or they might pretend not to.
Relationships and trust may become part of the conversation.
Get ready for meaningful social interactions in Tamriel again not just click-and-go fast travel.

ESO is beautiful. Its huge. And most of the time, players never feel that size because everything is waymarked, highlighted, or fast-traveled for MMO reasons, I get it.
This addon is for roleplayers, immersion lovers, lore enthusiasts, and Daggerfall nostalgia junkies. Its a small piece of what made Elder Scrolls special: not knowing everything, but asking around.
