Soulframe Mendicant King Boss Guide

The Mendicant King is a repeatable boss encounter in Soulframe. As of the Preludes 10 update, he is arguably the strongest enemy in the game, and players often team up to defeat him quickly and easily.
With a decent build and some skill, you can defeat him by yourself.
In this guide, we will introduce the Mendicant King, explaining how to find him, how to defeat him and the best way to farm the unique armour fragments that drop when he’s defeated.
What Is the Mendicant King in Soulframe?
The Mendicant King is a boss in Soulframe. He has two possible spawn locations, one in the south-west area of the map and another in the south-east. Both spawn locations are large stone thrones situated in extremely corrupted coastal marshes.
If you want to take on the Mendicant King on your own, you should level up your character first. This is because the Mendicant King has high attack damage and a large pool of HP.
To begin the fight, find the throne where the King is seated, and ring the large bell behind the throne by hitting it with any melee or ranged attack.
Players will often recruit players for this encounter in the in-game Recruiting chat. They often refer to him as “king“, so look out for this term if you want to join a group for this boss.
The Mendicant King is notable, not only due to his strength, but also because he drops fragments of a unique set of armour, and can drop top-tier Blessed Joineries.
How to Defeat the Mendicant King – Mechanics & Strategy
While the Mendicant King has more mechanics than any other boss currently in Soulframe, it is not especially complicated and will not overwhelm players who have experience with mechanically intricate boss battles in other RPGs.
The Mendicant King has three mechanics to note:
- Minions – At the beginning of the battle, he spawns two smaller minions who will chase you down at all times. Throughout the battle, he will spawn more. Therefore, you may need to choose between focusing on the minions when they spawn or avoiding the minions’ attacks and focusing your attention on the Mendicant King. Each active minion gives some damage mitigation to the King, and defeating all of them will stagger him for a few seconds.
- Shockwaves – A tether appears between the Mendicant King and your character. He will lift his sword in the air. When the sword slams down to the ground, a rapid shockwave will be sent in your direction. If you are hit by the shockwave, your character will be slowed down. Getting hit multiple times can completely halt your movement, leaving you very vulnerable to further attacks. Dodge roll to either side at the same instant that the sword hits the ground to avoid the shockwaves.
- Ground Patterns – The Mendicant King summons a checkerboard pattern on the ground. If you stand in the black squares, you are stunned and take some damage.
While it might seem difficult at first, with a bit of practice, it’s very easy to survive these mechanics.
How to Farm the Mendicant King
As mentioned above, players in Soulframe frequently group up to fight the Mendicant King. They aren’t just doing it for fun – he drops high-quality Joineries (for upgrading weapons) and fragments of unique armour pieces that cannot be obtained in any other way.
Each player’s world imposes a one-hour cooldown on the spawn of the Mendicant King. This means that when you’ve defeated him, you must wait an hour before fighting him again. But you can bypass this cooldown by joining another player’s game and defeating their Mendicant King.
If you want to farm him on your own, it helps to bring a build that has both high damage output and good defensive effects. I recommend the Ode Tempest Melee Build, which is the highest DPS build in the game, and can also become temporarily impervious to damage, allowing you to nuke down the King’s HP bar before he can retaliate.
