Wylder Build Guide – Elden Ring: Nightreign

Welcome to our Wylder Build Guide for Elden Ring: Nightreign.
This guide explains how to play as a Wylder in Nightreign, and provides tips and a general direction for building him. Due to the RNG nature of loot and buffs in each run of Nightreign, we won’t provide a precise blueprint. We’ll instead explain the most optimal things to prioritise when choosing your loot.
Please note that this guide is based on pre-release information, much of it from the network test. As such, it is still a work in progress that we aim to update in the run-up to and immediately after the release of Elden Ring: Nightreign. See also: Nightreign Nightfarers List.

Wylder Overview – Nightreign
Wylder is a balanced all-rounder with good speed and attack power. His balanced nature and Sixth Sense passive make him a natural choice for beginners.
- Starting Stats:
- HP: 220
- FP: 55
- Stamina: 54
- Starting Gear:
- Wylder’s Greatsword
- Wylder’s Small Shield
- Sixth Sense – Allows you to avoid death once. Sixth Sense has no automatic cooldown, but can be refreshed by activating a Site of Grace.
- Claw Shot – Launch a claw to the target location, if it’s within range. You can target the terrain or a wall to pull yourself to that location. You can also target a small enemy to pull them to you, or a larger enemy to pull yourself to them. Good for mobility, quickly getting to and escaping from various enemies.
- Onslaught Stake – Launch a stake at the target. It explodes on impact, which can stagger and interrupt even large boss enemies. Usually has a short range, but you can charge it up, increasing the cast time to boost the range and damage. The standard version consumes half of your Ultimate, while the charged version consumes all of it.
Wylder is especially useful for newer players thanks to his Sixth Sense passive, allowing you to easily recover from one mistake. This makes learning in Elden Ring: Nightreign a slightly more forgiving experience. Remember to utilize your Claw Shot to quickly get around. This isn’t just for traversing the world quickly, but can also be used in combat to quickly advance on enemies or get out of the way of a big attack. Your Onslaught Strike can help your team out a lot in boss fights by staggering the boss. The more time a boss spends staggered, the less chance they have of killing you or an ally, so it’s good for everyone and deals decent damage, too.
Wylder Build Guide – Nightreign
In this section, we will outline the best strategy for building the Wylder in Elden Ring: Nightreign. While no two runs are exactly the same, there are strategies you can utilize that tend to result in the most optimal improvements for the Wylder.
Early-Game Loot Strategy
At the start of the game, prioritise farming the following locations, if possible:
- Start by killing small enemies near your starting location, aiming to reach at least Level 3.
- Farm Lightning and Fire settlements for weapons. Kill all enemies and loot every chest. We are mainly looking for the Axe of Godrick, but you should also pick up any weapons with the passives listed below.
- While travelling between settlements, look out for Churches and visit as many as possible to get healing upgrades.
Mid and Late-Game Strategy
As you progress through the game, shift to the following priorities:
- Continue farming Lightning and Fire settlements to search for weapon upgrades.
- Fight world bosses, which have a higher chance of dropping legendary items and more powerful passives.
- Continue looking out for Churches as you travel between these objectives.
- On Day 3, check the Merchant for items that can increase your damage, such as Smithing Stones (used for weapon upgrades). Ensure you have levelled up as much as possible before you fight the Nightlord.

How to Play Wylder – Nightreign
Wylder combines high durability with high mobility, making him one of the most forgiving Nightfarers to play as. While he is a little easier to play than the others, he still has a high skill ceiling. One of the most important things to learn is his Claw Shot. The mobility afforded by this tool is pivotal to Wylder’s combat style. Try using it to quickly enter and leave combat, and chain attacks into the animation of your Claw Shot to quickly deal damage with minimal risk of retaliation.
This Wylder build is mainly focused on charged attacks, so work as many of them in as possible. You can also use jump attacks, which have a similar effect but are quicker to pull off.
Remember that the explosion from your Onslaught Stake can throw even mighty enemies off balance, making the fight easier for you and your team.
