Apostrophe Name Fix (0.2.0)
Apostrophe Name Fix corrects stray backslashes before apostrophes that display in character names in group interfaces, such as “Bob’smith” appearing instead of “Bob’smith”. This appears to be a new bug in the recent HUD update beta. Once ZOS fixes the bug, this addon can be removed.
It corrects names returned by ESO’s unit-name APIs and refreshes the group roster and unit-frame labels. This also resolves affected group-menu Travel to Player lookups.
Works automatically after installation. Supports all names affected by this escaping problem. Preserves ordinary apostrophes, accents, and ESO’s name metadata.
No dependencies. Works on PC and Mac.
Commands:
/anf Show status.
/anf check Compare original and corrected names.
/anf off Disable correction until the next UI reload.
/anf on Enable correction.
/anf refresh Refresh roster and unit-frame names.
/anf share Prepare a temporary fix to share with someone without the addon.
/anf travel Prepare an account-based command others can use to travel to you.
/anf travel group7 Prepare that command for a specific group member.
Sharing commands prepare editable drafts; they do not send messages automatically. Temporary fixes last until logout or UI reload.
The fix applies locally to clients running the addon or temporary script; it does not change server data. The only way you can help others without the addon is by sending them to download the addon, giving them the command with “/anf share”, or sending them this to paste into their chat:
/script if not ANF_Temp and not SLASH_COMMANDS then ANF_Temp=true for _,k in ipairs({“GetRawUnitName”,”GetUnitName”}) do local f=_G _G=function(…) local s=f(…) return type(s)==”string” and(s:gsub(string.char(92)..”+'”,”‘”))or s end end end GROUP_LIST_MANAGER:RefreshData() UNIT_FRAMES:UpdateNames()
